The Beatles hired prostitutes when they were desperate for sex, John Lennon once confessed.
In a long lost interview, the late musician told Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner: "If you couldn't get groupies, we had whores. Whatever was going."
"There were photos of me crawling round on my knees coming out of whorehouses in Amsterdam with people saying, 'Good morning, John.'"
Lennon said the revelations never came to light to avoid "a big scandal."
He added in the 1970 interview, conducted just months after the legendary band split and recently broadcast by Britain's BBC Radio 4: "Everybody around you wants the image to carry on. That's why some of them are clinging to it."
